Basically, this was not going to be a Pinterest-worthy event.
(By the by, I've reorganized some of my Pinterest boards because that's apparently my new anxiety reducer. Kyle turns on political stuff and I dive into pretty pictures with a fury, trying to tune it all out. So if you follow me, make sure you update what all you follow.)
But what it was going to be was fun. It was going to be laid-back, a celebration of just friends and family and the end of summer and being at a really good stopping point in our home renovations and we'd have some cake for Tova because, well, who doesn't like cake?
So I whipped up a little something in Photoshop and made a Facebook event (because we keep it classy like that) and, yeah:
The birthday girl and her never-off-of-her-head-hat:
We made the event a potluck and told people not to bring her presents because we have enough kids stuff for about four kids, and people did not disappoint:
I was all paranoid that since we had it on a Sunday evening that no one would come, but you know, we have awesome friends and family:
Do you see that cheeseball of a child there? I may have to crop this down to just his sweet little face and frame it.
And for the littles, we got out the baby pool one last time for the summer and let them go at it:
It's hard to tell in this photo, but this cake had glitter all over it. It was probably our only splurge as we got it from the cake shop our wedding cakes were from. Ends up the cost is pretty much the same as a pre-made grocery store cake. The more you know.
Confused about the Happy Birthday Song, she just started saying "Hi!" and waving at everyone.
And the moment of truth, telling her the cake was hot so she'd blow on it while policing Kiedis from taking matters into his own hands (because Duder was STOKED about birthday cake in the house, never mind his half-birthday is next week) and having to actually do it myself:
Photos were courtesy of my mom, because I was too busy trying to actually hang out and give tours and play and clean up to get out the camera I actually remembered to charge the battery in.
There's always next year.
